Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then located many other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior political figure commented the incident left him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
