Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Championship in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev secured his first title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial championship following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after that period of the previous year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, including in that event earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.

But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

The opponent defended four early-game break points in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
